Digital Dental X-Rays
Many of our patients wonder if dental x-rays are really necessary. At Gruber Dental, we take x-rays because we can’t diagnose problems we can’t see. Tooth enamel can hide decay and fractures, and it is only with dental x-rays and light cavity detection that we can treat little problems before they become big ones.
For example, a small cavity that goes undiagnosed can quickly turn into a deep infection that puts your tooth at risk. By taking care of conditions early, we can often avoid painful dental emergencies and tooth loss.
Are Dental X-Rays Safe?
Being concerned about radiation is natural, especially for families with young kids. Digital dental x-rays emit up to 80 percent less radiation than their film predecessors. Dental x-rays are among the lowest in radiation exposure in the medical field, and the benefits far outweigh the risks.
We take x-rays on a personalized schedule based on your dental needs. For most people, that probably means about once per year. If, however, you experience a dental emergency or need treatment, we may take more images as needed. We are always happy to discuss this with you and explain why we recommend dental radiographs.

CBCT Cone Beam Imaging
In many cases, having a digital 3-D image of dental structures is more beneficial. Surgical procedures, such as implant placement or extractions are far more accurate and predictable using 3-D images. We can also use 3-D CBCT images to plan difficult or complex root canal procedures for a superior outcome.
