Tooth Whitening & Bleaching
Our practice offers a variety of different whitening or bleaching treatment options, customized for each patient’s specific desires or needs. Whitening is a chemical process, valuable in reducing discoloration or staining and provides our patients with brighter, whiter and healthier looking smiles. Methods include in office or at-home treatments, or a combination of each. Bleaching materials are peroxide gels that work by forming hydrogen peroxide as their end product. This hydrogen peroxide breaks down to water, oxygen and byproducts known as bleaching factors that lighten teeth.
Custom At-Home Bleaching Trays-
This method involves the fabrication of trays that are customized to each patient’s individual mouth. Patients are given gel bleach tubes to take home and are given instructions on use. This method is exclusively for at-home use and patients usually begin to see changes within a few applications.
These trays can be used by anyone, and while not customized to the patient’s individual mouth, they can be molded very easily to adhere to any patient’s teeth. This is ideal for patients who would like to start bleaching immediately without having to have a custom tray fabricated. This option is also a very effective at-home method.
KoR is currently recognized as the world’s most effective whitening system. It is a combination of at home and in-office bleaching. Impressions are obtained in our office and custom trays are made for the patient to use at home with KoR gel for a period of two weeks. After two weeks of nightly use, the patient returns to our office for a final in-office session before their treatment is complete.
Zoom is an in-office tooth whitening procedure, which uses the Zoom Advanced Power Chairside Lamp – said to accelerate the bleaching process – to activate the hydrogen peroxide whitening. The entire procedure takes less than one hour, and involves a short preparation to cover the lips and gums followed by application of the whitening gel. This gel which works together with the Zoom light to penetrate the teeth to break up stains and discolorations.
